I intend to continue to try everyday wines on Monday evenings. Tonight I drank Poggiopianos entry-level Chianti latest vintage.
2008 Gallardi Chianti is completely transparent in a ruby \u200b\u200bred hue. It looks, in other words like sangiovese to do. The wine is organic and made of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot and 5% Canaiolo. The scent is not immediate and wide open but you may as well coax a bit with it. There is also no Chianti caricature. At first I feel a faint scent of roses, which makes me associate to nebbiolo. Then some black pepper before cherry and other red berries give a hint about where we are. A bit restrained fattoner is in the background.
taste is well balanced with a sweet fruitiness, crisp acidity and firm tannins. First a sweet sensation with roses and cherries, then a real boost with the fresh acidity and a relatively long spicy finish.
This is a simple chianti which is exactly to my taste. A full size matvin which is useful for very much. Tonight I drank it with pasta with tomato sauce, a few slices of wild boar sausage from Bjärhus, bread and cheese but I for a moment wished I had something else in glaset.Inte great but good enough simply.
Vinminvin sells for 109 kr.
