I started the year with to try some wines from Trentino. In the past month have both Winepunker , Finer Whirly Tube and blogosphere latest addition Terroiristen attention Elisabetta Fora Doris teroldego wines. The latter in a discriminating but positive review. Tonight I felt like drinking something that is so far from the last few days both acid poor sangiovese / montepulcianoblandningar you can possibly get.
2007 Foradori Myrto is under home done on Manzoni bianco (or Incrocio Manzoni 6.0.13 as it is known) who had a week of skin contact. If you read the importer Prime Wines home made wine of 60% sauvignon blanc and 40% incrocio Manzoni and it says nothing about skin contact. On other sites I find additional suggestions grapes included. After looking, smell and taste of wine is my interpretation the Prime Wines description of vintage 2007 is entirely correct. I could also imagine that Elisabetta Foradori opted for a purely Manzoni Bianco grape for later editions. I will return to the topic.
Manzoni Bianco is an interesting grape, a cross between riesling and pinot bianco. The crossing was made in the 30's by Professor Luigi Manzoni in Conegliano. The grape is grown primarily in north-eastern Veneto and Friuli-east but is now starting to get a wider distribution.
The wine is pale straw yellow with some green reflections. The aroma is very elegant and understated. It may reinforce attention to catch the nuances. First I sense a little flowery, cautious fattoner and herbs, then some citrus flavors before timid Sauvignon Blanc markers blackcurrant leaf and gooseberry timidly looking up. It feels a little odd to experience these elements so sheer and low-key.
In the mouth surprised Myrto with a relatively high viscosity. It has a very healthy and lively acidity. Citrus and minerals dominate the flavor palette. Towards the end paws sauvignon blanc-markers up again. Long-acid cage after taste.
An adorable wine that I will surely return to the summer. Available in order selection for 179 kr.
