Jörgens posts from yesterday was a reminder of how narrow perspective of the Swedish wine world. Sure, I dwell on the Friuli and makes digressions into Slovenia and Gerogien sometimes. IV-Patrick highlights unknown Piedmont appellations. One and another litter messages on other blogs are exceptions to the rule that its focus is narrow. And honestly, when read, or wrote a post about a wine from Rasteau last?
monopoly with one of the world's best selection, not a single bottle offering. The more modest Norwegian monopoly (Scandinavia's best choice?) Has seven.
For more than a year ago I tried 2004 Rasteau Cuvée Prestige from Domaine La Soumare. Tonight, after the year's longest jog, I felt as location for a return visit. I needed something warm and there were mince steaks of wild boar with roasted root vegetables on the menu. Cuvée Prestige is a blend of 80% grenache, 10% Mourvedre and 10% syrah. Most of the wine is aged in cement and 20% aged in used barriques.
wine has a dense, dark purplish hue. The aroma is typical sydrhonsk and right rustic. Very clear animal print, stables, ripe cherries and strawberries. I also see a little pipe tobacco, licorice and minerals. There is also some alcohol but this is how I understand it as inviting, warm and welcoming rather than annoying. Cherry Liqueur rather than moonshine.
taste live more than up to the promises made by the scent gives. This is a genuine, heartfelt and warm wine. Although it's very nice to drink on its own so it is with the food as it really comes into its own. The wine is just over medium bodied with bärfrukten in the center. Fresh acidity, hearty but surprisingly fine-grained tannins and good, spicy finish. Good Shit simply.
