During the past week, my morning reading material consisted of Brillat-Savarin "Taste physiology" . I have read with great balance, but confidence as well as self-image has been dented when I have to say that it is helkört for me. Some connoisseurs will I ever be. Instead, I ask me in line and accept the affinities of the people "which nature denies the body the fineness, or the focus of attention, without which the most tasty dishes slip unnoticed".
Gerald Vale is one. On their 26 ha in St. Nicolas de Bourgeuil he grows primarily Cabernet Franc. 2006 Les Perruches is 100% made in the grape. The color is a dense purplish hue. The scent is very straightforward, frank and rustic. It offers a wonderful bärfrukt as blueberry and black currant. There is a little sweet, a little animal traits and somewhere in the background anas fattonerna.
taste is steeped in exactly the same form. Bärfrukten romping with liquorice and green pepper. The acid is very healthy and together with the animal features gives the wine a little wild touch. The tannins are soft and the whole feels very balanced. A slim, healthy and very attractive no-nonsense wine.
Thus, no wine for the connoisseur, but perfect for me. I drank the wine into a tomato-based confit and polenta. Even if the origin is French so enjoyed it very well with the Italian food. If it has not been for the green peppers, I would probably have put the wine in northern Italy.
